House Mouse

Mus musculus

The most common mouse found in homes. They are small, gray or brown, and have a pointed snout and large ears. They are excellent climbers and can squeeze through openings as small as 1/4 inch.

Deer Mouse

Deer mice are larger than house mice and have a white belly and feet. They are common in rural areas and can carry hantavirus, which can be dangerous to humans.

Field Mouse

Field mice are larger than house mice and have a more robust build. They are typically found in fields and gardens but may enter homes in search of food and shelter.

White-footed Mouse

White-footed mice are similar to deer mice but have a more reddish-brown back. They are common in wooded areas and can carry Lyme disease.

Droppings

Mouse droppings are small, dark, and rod-shaped. They are typically found near food sources, along walls, and in hidden areas. Fresh droppings are soft and dark, while older ones are hard and gray.

Gnaw Marks

Mice gnaw on various materials to keep their teeth sharp and to gain access to food. Look for small, rough gnaw marks on wood, plastic, and food packaging.

Tracks

Mouse tracks can be found in dusty areas or on surfaces where they travel. They have four toes on their front feet and five on their back feet, with a distinctive pattern.

Nests

Mice build nests from soft materials like paper, fabric, and insulation. They are typically found in hidden areas like attics, basements, and behind walls.
